Is a 2-yard skip right for your job?
A 2-yard skip is the smallest of our mini skips and the smallest we offer and holds roughly 20 to 25 bin bags. It suits a bathroom refit, a small garden tidy or a one-room clear-out. It's also one of only two sizes that can take heavy hardcore, soil and rubble, from £100 + VAT for a hardcore-only load. If you're unsure between this and a 4-yard, pick the bigger one for bulky but light waste and the smaller one for heavy material.
When a 2-yard skip is the right choice
Pick a 2-yard when the waste is heavy but the amount is small: a bathroom strip-out, a small patio lift, a garden border dig or the rubble from knocking out a fireplace.
It is too small for furniture or a whole-room clear-out, where bulky items fill it in minutes. For those, go up to a 4-yard.
What should not go in it?
Do not place hazardous items, electrical equipment or upholstered seating into mixed waste without approval.
Electrical items, batteries, chemicals, asbestos and some upholstered furniture require separate checks. Consult our skip waste guide and ask us if anything is uncertain. Even a small amount of a banned item cannot go in.
Fitting a 2-yard skip on a small drive
Because it is the smallest skip, a 2-yard fits on short drives, narrow front gardens and some paths where nothing larger would go. That makes it popular for terraced houses and flats with a small forecourt.
If even a 2-yard will not fit, a skip bag does a similar job and can be placed by hand. Our 4.5-yard bag holds more than a 2-yard skip but is better for light waste.
Real jobs that fit a 2-yard skip
A 2-yard skip is the smallest skip we deliver, roughly the size of a small car boot stretched out. In practice it takes around 20 to 25 bin bags of mixed waste, or a small amount of very heavy material.
It is the right choice for a bathroom strip-out, a small patio lift, a garden border dig or clearing out one room before decorating. It is also the size we suggest most for soil and rubble, because a bigger skip filled with dense material quickly gets too heavy to lift safely.
Because it is compact, a 2-yard skip fits on most drives, even short ones, and sometimes on a front garden path. If you are unsure whether you need this or a 4-yard skip, think about bulky items. A sofa, a mattress or a pile of fence panels will fill a 2-yard skip fast, so the next size up is usually better value for mixed household clear-outs.
2-yard skip questions
How many bin bags fit in a 2-yard skip?
Roughly 20 to 25 bags of mixed household waste.
Can I fill a 2-yard skip with soil?
Yes. The 2-yard is ideal for soil and rubble, as long as the load stays level with the top.
Is a 2-yard skip or a skip bag cheaper?
For under a yard of light waste, a 1-yard bag at £70 + VAT is cheaper. For heavy rubble, the 2-yard skip is the safer choice.
