What can and cannot go in a skip
The waste type matters as much as the container size. Keep clean hardcore and green waste separate when quoted that way, and check restricted items before putting them in a skip.

Quick answer: what is usually acceptable?
Most household and building rubbish can go in. Clean green waste and clean hardcore have different price bands. Electrical equipment, batteries, chemicals, asbestos and upholstered seating need special checks and should not be put in with an ordinary mixed load.
Check first
Timber, flooring, plasterboard, glass, mattresses (no extra charge with us), upholstered seating and contaminated soil.
Keep out without approval
Asbestos, lithium batteries, vapes, liquids, solvents, paint, gas bottles and electrical appliances.
Heavy materials
Rubble, soil and hardcore go in 2 or 4-yard skips only, filled level.
Waste-type guides
Read detailed answers on mattresses, garden waste, glass, electrical items and soil. If you are unsure, send a photograph before you load.
Sofas and other upholstered seating
Old sofas and armchairs fall under strict POPs rules. Keep them apart from other waste. See Environment Agency guidance on upholstered seating, then consider a separate sofa collection.
Why you need the correct price band
| Skip size | Hardcore only (no soil) | Green waste only | Mixed / general |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 yard | £100 | Ask for a quote | £125 |
| 4 yard | £130 | £150 | £220 |
| 6 yard | Not accepted | £180 | £250 |
| 8 yard | Not accepted | £200 | £320 |
All displayed skip prices exclude VAT. Delivery, collection and tipping are included in the price, and mattresses go in at no extra charge. Heavy waste is restricted to 2- and 4-yard skips. The hardcore-only price covers clean brick, concrete and rubble, which is recycled at no tipping cost. Soil is charged at the mixed waste price. Ton bags and skip bags are quoted separately.
A low “from” price applies to the stated waste type, not to every mixed load. If materials are mixed, the quote can change. Tell us if it is soil, brick, garden waste, household junk or demolition waste, so we send the right skip.
Frequently asked questions
Can I put a battery or disposable vape in a skip?
No. Batteries and vapes can start fires, so they must never go in a skip.
Can I mix rubble with household rubbish?
Do not assume so. Clean hardcore costs less than mixed waste and needs a 2 or 4-yard skip. Check the exact materials when you book.
What if I have a material that is not listed?
Send a photo or written list to D J Recycling before loading. We will tell you what we can take, and where else to go if we cannot.
