Is an 8-yard skip right for your job?
An 8-yard skip, often called a builder's skip, holds roughly 70 to 80 bin bags. It's the one for big renovations, whole-house clearances and building projects with lots of light, bulky waste. Heavy soil and rubble aren't allowed in this size. Mixed waste is £320 + VAT and green waste is £200 + VAT, and it needs the most space, so check the drive or road position first.
When an 8-yard skip makes sense
Builders and householders use the 8-yard for full renovations, strip-outs and whole-house clearances where the waste is mostly timber, plasterboard offcuts kept separate, packaging and furniture.
One 8-yard usually works out cheaper than two smaller skips, as long as you have the space and the waste is light.
What should not go in it?
Do not fill with heavy earth, rubble or hardcore. Keep material level with the top.
Electrical items, batteries, chemicals, asbestos and some upholstered furniture require separate checks. Consult our skip waste guide and ask us if anything is uncertain. Even a small amount of a banned item cannot go in.
Planning space for an 8-yard skip
The 8-yard is our largest skip, so it needs a long drive or a clear area with firm ground. Check overhead cables and trees, because the lorry's arm needs clear space to lift it.
On the road, an 8-yard needs a council licence, lights and enough width to leave traffic room to pass.
Real jobs that fit an 8-yard skip
The 8-yard skip is often called a builder's skip, and it is the largest size we offer. It takes roughly 70 to 80 bin bags of mixed waste, which makes it the choice for full renovations, big house clearances and large garden projects.
Trades use it for strip-outs where a lot of light but bulky waste builds up, like old kitchens, flooring, timber and packaging. Householders choose it when they are clearing a whole property and want to do it in one go.
Like the 6-yard skip, it is not for soil or hardcore, because a full load of heavy material would be unsafe to lift. It also needs a decent amount of space and a firm surface, so check your drive or plan for a road permit before booking.
8-yard skip questions
How many bin bags fit in an 8-yard skip?
Roughly 70 to 80 bags of mixed household waste.
Is one 8-yard cheaper than two 4-yard skips?
Usually, yes. Two mixed waste 4-yards cost £440 + VAT, against £320 + VAT for one 8-yard.
Can builders use an 8-yard for site waste?
Yes, for light waste such as timber, packaging and fittings. Heavy rubble must go in a smaller skip.
